In 2016, a small group of engineers, humanitarians, and volunteers came together with one goal: to save lives. Working hand in hand with the Syria Civil Defence, they built Sentry, an early warning system that gave families precious seconds to find safety from airstrikes.
What began as lines of code and radio calls became a lifeline for millions of people across Syria. Sentry was powered by data and AI, and by something equally essential: courage, compassion, and countless acts of human cooperation.
As Syria’s conflict evolved, so did Hala’s mission. We learned that protecting lives also means protecting truth. With our partners in transitional justice, we created the Hala Protocol, setting a global standard for the ethical and legal use of audio data in conflict and helping ensure that evidence collected in crisis can support future justice.
Today, Hala carries that same spirit of protection and accountability into new contexts. We work with governments, NGOs, and international organizations operating in crisis environments, integrating data, technology, and frontline expertise into tailored solutions for complex challenges.
